BBC One has confirmed that the mysterious Victorian era “Sherlock Special” will be called “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride,” and it will air on PBS and BBC One on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2016 at 9pm Eastern in the US. The special episode of Sherlock is to be screened at more than 100 UK cinemas at the same time as it is seen on BBC One.
It was also announced that a fourth season of “Sherlock,” produced by Hartswood Films for BBC One and co-produced by “Masterpiece,” will go into production in spring 2016.

Sherlock began airing in 2010, establishing a pattern of three 90-minute episodes per series. The most recent episode, “His Last Vow,” concluded Sherlock series three with a bit of a cliffhanger, teasing the return of Andrew Scott’s Jim Moriarty.
