With a historic fourth headline appearance at London’s Hyde Park, Blur, one of the biggest bands in the world, have confirmed two large US performances in support of their first new album in 12 years, The Magic Whip. They’ll play the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 20, and Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 23. Tickets go on sale June 20 at 10 a.m. via blur.co.uk/tour.
In other Blur news, the band has released its official comic book “Travel to Hong Kong with Blur”. Created by famed Hong Kong artist Kongkee of Penguin Lab and inspired by The Magic Whip, Travel to Hong Kong with Blur is available for purchase at http://shop.blur.co.uk/ and will be sold at the U.S. dates.
Released April 28, The Magic Whip (Warner Bros) entered the Billboard 200 at #12-the highest U.S. chart position of Blur’s career-and generated unanimous critical raves. Conceived over five days in Hong Kong after a cancelled Japan tour in 2013, the album was inspired by the city as well. “There’s nothing pastoral about it”, Albarn said, “it’s very urban”. The Magic Whip also marks the return of Coxon, absent on all but one track on Think Tank, and Stephen Street, Blur’s producer during the Britpop era
